April 13th ... only a day and a half to go! After 2 years of committee meetings, researching and grant-writing (unfortunately to no avail), the time has come for the 3-month sabbatical that my terms of call said I was entitled to after 5 years at Faith United Church. Now, having served here 8-1/2 years and with my 17th anniversary of ordination coming up on April 28th, I'm ready!
Today during coffee hour there was a Sabbatical Send-off party. Lots of bright colors (we do think spring is coming!) and fun.
The cake reminded us of our benediction song that we sing at the end of each Sunday service: "God be with you till we meet again." Our moderator wished me a happy, restful and productive three months and gave me a compass, instructing me to just point it north so I can find my way home again.
Mary was worried about my going to Arizona in May and June, so I was also given an Arizona Survival Kit consisting of the wide-brimmed hat (below), plenty of SPF 60 sunblock lotion, and a miniature personal fan, all of which will come in very handy.
It's nice to know it's only temporary - only 3 months - and we will look forward to seeing each other again very soon.
